What a week!!! We had so much going on this week and are happy with the results. Our first cake of the week was a 3 tier topsy turvy Dr. Seuss cake. We used chocolate pound cake with chocolate buttercream and orange pound cake with orange buttercream. The layers were carved and then iced and covered in fondant. The decorating took hours but was worth it in the end. Each character and tree were cut out by hand and then hand painted after being placed on the cake. We added the sugarpaste figurines, each also made by hand and completely edible, as the finishing touches. This cake was perfect for a baby book themed shower for a mom expecting twins.
We also made the cupcake favors for this shower. They were chocolate cake with pink and blue vanilla buttercream. We sprinkled them with pink and blue sugar crystals and topped them with a homemade baby themed chocolate. Tags and ribbon were added to the clear boxes to add the perfect touch. And if that weren't enough for one weekend, we designed a Mystery Machine Van cake from Scooby Doo. Michael did all the carving to get the shape for this van. We decorated with fondant and covered oreos for the wheels. That cake was for Hannah and her sister celebrated her first birthday with a cupcake themed cake and smash cake. She had different color cupcake cutouts with candles, a number one, and a pink bow. A special thanks to our friends, the Muriels, and my mom Mary who helped us a lot this week. We never could have finished all this work without you. The Hoildays are always busy and it has already started around here!! Today I was able to share two new cakes on our home page. The first is a purple and pink present cake for a 5 year old's birthday party which she shared with her mom. It was a vanilla cake with chocolate buttercream decorated with purple and pink fondant and a pink bow.
The second is a Thanksgiving cake with a twist. It was ordered for a clinical research company so it was decorated accordingly. We included a turkey holding a pill-box, a syringe, band-aids, pumpkins, and a hay border. The flavors were perfect for Thanksgiving too, spice cake with cinnamon buttercream. We will be making 2 more Thanksgiving cakes tomorrow and can't wait to show you those as well. Our December schedule is filling up fast so make sure to contact us soon if you would like a holiday cake. FINALLY a new cake to show you. Though I have not had a new cake to show you in a couple of weeks, I have been very busy. We have fondant and gumpaste decorations all over the place. (yes, it's time for a bigger place). The next 3 weeks will be the busiest ever here at Cakes By Nadia and there will be plenty of new cakes for you to see.
We get so excited on the days when the cakes finally come together. Some cakes take many days to prepare for (yes days, even weeks. I know that sounds ridiculous but remember, we are a family of 5 and don't get to spend all our time on cakes!!). The decorations are fun to make, but there is nothing like seeing the finished product! That is how I felt today as we took the red velvet cake with red roses to Michael's work for his boss' birthday. We can't wait to see the rest of our decorations adorning many more cakes in the next few weeks. We have two new products coming out next week that will be perfect Christmas presents for teachers, co-workers, friends and anyone else who you would like to say Happy Holidays to. Our petit fours and chocolate boxes will both premier right after Thanksgiving. The petit fours will be available in many flavors and can be decorated for whatever holiday you are celebrating. Our chocolate boxes can be filled with chocolate covered fruit, sugar and spice pecans, chocolate covered peanut butter balls or homemade chocolates, They can also be purchased empty if you would like to fill them yourself. We can't wait to share these with you. Please order early as Christmas is a very busy time of year for us all. There are two cakes in our featured section this week because we have been very busy around here. The first one was a surprise cake for a friend. Her husband ordered a music themed cake and they were both thrilled with the results. "It was more than I imagined" was his remark.
The second feature this week was a new adventure for us. The Halloween cupcakes featured were two different flavors including vanilla and pumpkin. The pumpkin cakes were topped with a cinnamon buttercream and the vanilla were topped with vanilla buttercream. We used mostly organic ingredients, though these could have been made completely organic. We used spices, food coloring, and fondant that was not organic only to keep the price down a little bit. The flavors were delicious and I think I may even like the organic frosting better than regular buttercream! Today I delievered the first of my Halloween orders for this week. We are happy with how it turned out and love the little details that we incorporated. There are handmade pumpkins, candy corns, gravestones, a witch hat, multi-colored bow, hand-cut bats, cats, and spider. We also used a new flavor, orange, and think it is delicious. Take a look on our home page for this adorable cake.
What is your favorite Holiday? I love Christmas and Thanksgiving comes in a closssecond. Why not order a special cake, cupcakes, chocolates or petite fours to help your family celebrate your favorite. I have tons of ideas and would love to design a cake just for you. Try a holiday flavor like pumpkin or snickerdoodle with cinnamon buttercream. We spent some time last week coming up with a new whipped icing. Yes, we were trying to copy everybody in Florida's (hint, hint) favorite whipped icing. Please leave me a comment and tell me what your favorite is so I know if we were right!! I think we came pretty close. We used whipping cream, butter, sugar and a few other secret ingredients to make this delicious frosting. This icing can be used to decorate in the same wasy that we use traditonal buttercream so we decorated with roses and a shell border. We heard that the there were no leftovers.
This week is one of my busiest yet. The website will be buzzing this week with ou newest creations. As I am getting busier, make sure you order early or at least tell me you are thinking about it as far in advance as you can. The Holidays are coming and I am starting to design for Thanksgiving. Let me know Our 2 most recent cakes were to celebrate memories. Some old and some new. Our Cole cake was for a newborn to clebrate the memory of his birth and our red, white, and blue carnation cake was to celebrate the lives of a dad and son who recently passed in an accident.
I am currently working on an order for organic cupcakes. This is a new venue for me, but I am learning a lot as I do research to make the perfect organic cupcakes. We are creating a vanilla flavor and a pumpkin flavor to celebrate Halloween. I know many people have food allerigies or preferences and I would love to create a cake to satisfy your specific needs. I am also working on Kosher chocolates, so we have something to offer everyone!! There have been lots of things added to the site and there are many to come in the next couple of weeks. If you have enjoyed one of our products and would like to help me by writing a review, please let me know. I would really appreciate it. I will be making petit fours to show you soon too. I will start taking orders on those for the holidays as soon as I post pictures. Please order as early as possible to give us enough time to plan the perfect cakes for you.
Our newest creations are now pictured on the site. The "Melodie" cake is on our home page and the "Harmony Cupcakes" are on the cupcake page along with our sunflower chocolates and chocolate bowls.
Halloween is coming soon and there will be plenty of new cakes and cupcakes on the site soon. |
AuthorCakes by Nadia came about after taking a few cake classes at a local store. I have become addicted to coming up with new ideas for cakes and "playing with my food" We live in Florida and have 3 young children who love to help me in the kitchen when they can. Even my husband likes to help out and of course they all enjoy sampling the outcome. Archives
